6 Bodily Tissues That Can Be Regenerated Through Nutrition

6 Bodily Tissues That Can Be Regenerated Through Nutrition

It may come as a surprise to some, especially those with conventional medical training, but the default state of the body is one of ceaseless regeneration.  Without the flame-like process of continual cell turnover within the body – life and death ceaselessly intertwined – the miracle of the human body would not exist.

In times of illness, however, regenerative processes are overcome by degenerative ones. This is where medicine may perform its most noble feat, nudging the body back into balance with foods, herbs, nutrients, healing energies, i.e. healing intention. Today, however, drug-based medicine invariably uses chemicals that have not one iota of regenerative potential; to the contrary, they almost always interfere with bodily self-renewal in order to suppress the symptoms against which they are applied.

Despite the outright heretical nature of things which stimulate healing and regeneration vis-à-vis the conventional medical system which frowns upon, or is incredulous towards, spontaneous remission in favor of symptom suppression and disease management, over the course of the past few years of trolling MEDLINE we have collected a series of remarkable studies on the topic...

nerve cell regeneration

Nerve Regeneration – There are actually a broad range of natural compounds with proven nerve-regenerative effects. A 2010 study published in the journal Rejuvenation Research, for instance, found a combination of blueberry, green tea and carnosine have neuritogenic (i.e. promoting neuronal regeneration) and stem-cell regenerative effects in an animal model of neurodegenerative disease. [1] Other researched neuritogenic substances include:

  1. Curcumin
  2. Lion's Mane Mushroom
  3. Apigenin (compound in vegetables like celery)
  4. Blueberry
  5. Ginseng
  6. Huperzine
  7. Natto
  8. Red Sage
  9. Resveratrol
  10. Royal Jelly
  11. Theanine
  12. Ashwaganda
  13. Coffee (trigonelline)

There is another class of nerve-healing substances, known as remyelinating compounds, which stimulate the repair of the protective sheath around the axon of the neurons known as myelin, and which is often damaged in neurological injury and/or dysfunction, especially autoimmune and vaccine-induced demyelination disorders.  It should also be noted that even music and falling in love have been studied for possibly stimulating neurogenesis, regeneration and/or repair of neurons, indicating that regenerative medicine does not necessary require the ingestion of anything; rather, a wide range of therapeutic actions may be employed to improve health and well-being, as well.

[View the first-hand biomedical citations on these neuritogenic substance visit our Neuritogenic Research page on the topic]

Liver RegenerationGlycyrrhizin, a compound found within licorice, and which we recently featured as a powerful anti-SARS virus agent,  has also been found to stimulate the regeneration of liver mass and function in the animal model of hepatectomy. Other liver regenerative substances include:

  1. Carvacrol (a volatile compound in oregano)
  2. Curcumin
  3. Korean Ginseng
  4. Rooibos
  5. Vitamin E

[view the first-hand biomedical citations on the Liver Regeneration research page]

Beta-Cell Regeneration – Unfortunately, the medical community has yet to harness the diabetes-reversing potential of natural compounds. Whereas expensive stem cell therapies, islet cell transplants, and an array of synthetic drugs in the developmental pipeline are the focus of billions of dollars of research, annually, our kitchen cupboards and backyards may already contain the long sought-after cure for type 1 diabetes. The following compounds have been demonstrated experimentally to regenerate the insulin-producing beta cells, which are destroyed in insulin dependent diabetes, and which once restored, may (at least in theory) restore the health of the patient to the point where they no longer require insulin replacement.

  1. Gymenna Sylvestre ("the sugar destroyer")
  2. Nigella Sativa ("black cumin")
  3. Vitamin D
  4. Curcumin (from the spice Turmeric)
  5. Arginine
  6. Avocado
  7. Berberine (found in bitter herbs such as Goldenseal and Barberry)
  8. Bitter Melon
  9. Chard (yes, the green leafy vegetables)
  10. Corn Silk
  11. Stevia
  12. Sulforaphane (especially concentrated in broccoli sprouts)

[view the first-hand biomedical citations on the Beta Cell Regeneration research page]

Hormone Regeneration – there are secretagogues, which increase the endocrine glands' ability to secrete more hormone, and there are substances that truly regenerate hormones which have degraded (by emitting electrons) into potentially carcinogenic "transient hormone" metabolites. One of these substances is vitamin C. A powerful electron donor, this vitamin has the ability to contribute electrons to resurrect the form and function of estradiol (estrogen; E2), progesterone, testosterone, for instance. [2] In tandem with foods that are able to support the function of glands, such as the ovaries, vitamin C may represent an excellent complement or alternative to hormone replacement therapy.

Cardiac Cell Regeneration – Not too long ago, it was believed that cardiac tissue was uniquely incapable of being regenerated. A new, but rapidly growing body of experimental research now indicates that this is simply not true, and there is a class of heart-tissue regenerating compounds known as neocardiogenic substances.  Neocardiogenic substances are able to stimulate the formation of cardiac progenitor cells which can differentiate into healthy heart tissue, and they include the following:

  1. Resveratrol
  2. Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthero)
  3. Red Wine Extract
  4. Geum Japonicum
  5. N-acetyl-cysteine

Another remarkable example of cardiac cell regeneration is through what is known as fetomaternal trafficking of stem cells through the placenta. In a recent article we discussed the amazing process known as "fetal microchimerism" by which the fetus contributes stem cells to the mother which are capable of regenerating her damaged heart cells, and possibly a wide range of other cell types.

Cartilage/Joint/Spine RegenerationCurcumin and resveratrol have been shown to improve recovery from spinal cord injury.  Over a dozen other natural compounds hold promise in this area, which can be viewed on our Spinal Cord Injury page.  As far as degenerative joint disease, i.e. osteoarthritis, there are a broad range of potentially regenerative substances, with 50 listed on our osteoarthritis research page.

Ultimately, regenerative medicine threatens to undermine the very economic infrastructure that props up the modern, drug-based and quite candidly degenerative medical system. Symptom suppression is profitable because it guarantees both the perpetuation of the original underlying disease, and the generation of an ever-expanding array of additional, treatment-induced symptoms.

This is the non-sustainable, infinite growth model which shares features characteristic of the process of cancer itself - a model, which by its very nature, is doomed to fail and eventually collapse. Cultivating diets, lifestyles and attitudes conducive to bodily regeneration can interrupt this pathological circuit, and help us to attain the bodily freedom that is a precondition for the liberation of the human soul and spirit, as well.

Following on from my previous comment on type 1 diabetes

Following on from (Mon, 2012-05-28 10:36)

Since this time i have been listening to Andrew Norton Webber's videos on YouTube and what he is saying sounded right to me, about water, of which we are about 80%. If the water we drink isn't good quality, and for most of us in the Western world, it isn't as it has fluoride and other chemicals in there, drinking distilled water is a must try. What i was mentioning before about the small capillaries that lead to the islets becoming blocked, well i think that the distilled water might be gradually unblocking them. Have a listen to Andrew and see what you think. I have had a few days since starting on this water where i have had perfect blood sugars and for me this is a first in 32 years, just saying. They use distilled water in kidney dialysis machines, and also to make pharma drugs, where cleanliness is important, it is the only water to be used.

kidneys nettle seed?

Is nettle seed "trophorestorative" for kidneys?  Thanks for great article.

Type 1 Diabetes

Thanks for the list on herbs that help promote Beta Cell regeneration. I think the problem with this approach is that you could regenerate all the Beta cells you want but until you stop the auto-immune response which attacts those cells it will do no good. I am currently trying a therapy on myself which does consist of some of these compounds. I have gymnema before but am not using it currently. I would be interested in any compounds you know of that would help stimulate the Thymus gland. As it is responsible for the T-cells which attack the beta cells, that might be helpful in a "cure" for Type 1.

There are a few ways to address this

I couldn't be in greater agreement with you. The scope of the article did not cover that issue. We did write about this before in an article on the topic:  The focus is on the autoimmune aspect. We have a wide range of pages on the topic of autoimmunity, as well.

I will check out that link. Thanks!

Ever hear of ANYONE who was actually Type 1 and got off insulin? Supposedly a guy named Victor Botenko (or something like that) but not sure he really was diagnosed or not. I guess the real test would be someone who was actually using insulin for a time and then was able to stop using it? I believe it is possible to regenerate and that the pancreas never stops making islet cells, and probably some insulin but not enough to make a difference. Studies have backed this up, too which showed that even after 50 years of having Type 1 the pancreas was still making some islet cells. So just need to find a way to stop the attack of cells!

The Boutenkos

I believe you are referring to Sergei Boutenko (the son of Victoria Boutenko) who is one of many people who have reported healing from type one diabetes after going on a diet of primarily uncooked plant based foods. To learn lore about Sergei take a look at:  He tells more about his more current work and lifestyle at:

A YouTube search for "diabetes raw foods" will bring up videos of hundreds of people telling similar stories of remarkable healing, many of which sound very sincere and from the heart.

Some of the well known doctors who have reported successfully helping many diabetic patients get off insulin are: Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Gabriel Cousens, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Neal Bernard, and pharmacist Suzy Cohen.

Healing Type 1 Diabetes or any autoimmune disease

I appreciate all the suggestions of supplements provided and especially the suggestion about hypnotism. The unconscious mind controls about 90% (some say 95%) of what happens regarding the body. So making changes in the unconscious mind to help with health makes a lot of sense.

I was a patient of a chiropracter using a modality called NeuroModulation Technique ( several years ago to help with allergies (dysfunction of an immune system nature), which had a profound effect in not only eliminating allergies, but as a 'side effect' improved my vision. It was such a profound change that I studied to become a NeuroModulation Technique (NMT) practitioner.

With NMT, the unconscious mind is made aware of the dysfunction - for example the misbehavior of the immune system in attacking islet cells - and given an instruction to correct itself, from the inside out without supplements or medications. NMT practitioners have found that emotions held in the body tissues also affect the immune system and that by releasing these, often a profound shift can occur immediately.

It may be possible to reverse autoimmune attack on the islet cells this way. But, the body would then need to 'catch up' on making enough islet cells to be self-sufficient so as not to take insulin from an external source. I think if one believes this regeneration can happen, then it can, as beliefs also affect the body (see Bruce Lipton's 'The Biology of Belief').

Hypnosis for diabetes

Check out this link- Devin is a friend of mine and he has completely reversed his diabetes. He has since worked with the Mayo Clinic on researching using hypnosis for diabetes with some fantastic results.

I will really have to check that out!! I do believe that part of the Type 1 is caused by, well me!! That theory doesn't hold true for young kids who come down with it, though. I do see the value of using the mind for this sort of thing. Thank you!!

Type 1 Diabetes

Do a search for Dr Wong. He has 2 people who have got off insulin using Zymessence apparently. Don't know if this is true though.

I have also read that the tiny veins that are attached to the islets become blocked, and that the pancreas never stops producing insulin, but the veins become blocked and stop the insulin getting out. Serrapeptase is an enzyme that supposedly unblocks the bodies arteries and veins, and that this is why Zymessence can work in some individuals. I haven't tried it myself as yet, as i have been using a different kind of Serrapeptase bought from Good Health Naturally, here in the UK, but so far it hasn't worked. The product is called Serranol which HSI did an article about saying that it is the only version of serrapeptase that uses 100% serrapeptase. All others use a 14% blend.

I am going to try the Zymessence afterwards, it can't harm to try it. The 2 testimonials are on the Dr Wong website.

Reversed Type I Diabetes

Dr. Ali has reported a patient that reversed Type I this year.

Raw food diet

I haven't verified this but I know a person who was in this documentary and claims he does not need insulin on an all-raw diet

Polycystic Liver

We do have a section on this condition

We hope this helps!

Polycistic Kidney and Liver

I have Polycistic Kidney and Liver is there anything I can take for it. My doctors say there is nothing they can do.

I also bin taking syndroing for my thyroid I asked the doctor for something natural so that my thyroid regenerates he laughed and said nothing but your syndroid.

Try Nature-throid

Synthroid has a bad reputation. I have never taken it. I had serious hypothyroidism that was completely reversed with Nature-throid. It is similar to Armour thyroid, mentioned by the other reader, but it is hypoallergenic. Many doctors don't know about it, but if you can give it a try, then please do. Of course, if you have tried Armour and are happy, that's fine. Both are dessicated pig thyroid. Synthroid is not only synthetic (not a bad thing in itself) but it is not a complete hormone. Nature-throid gives you both T3 and T4 in proportions appropriate for the human body.

I don't know what to tell you about cysts. Some cyst formation is almost inevitable. But I think only a very competent and honest Naturopath would be your best bet, or a doctor of integrative medicine who knows about natural healing. One problem with integrative medicine is that most doctors will acknowledge the importance of the obvious - vitamins, minerals, Omegas, etc... but often do not know how to treat disease naturally, and revert back to drugs, although they may be willing to monitor you carefully for damage from the drugs. Homeopathy may be helpful with cysts too.

Do a Google on Nature-throid. You should find some info at

Alternative to "Synthroid" for thyroid ("Armour Thyroid")

There is a naturally derived drug alternative to the synthetic thyroid drug "Synthroid", it is called Armour Thyroid. This link explains the differences and asks some serious questions about Synthroids effectivenes. I personally favor the natural "bioidentical" Armour compound ( usually lower dosage needed, generally better outcomes and equivalent dosages are cheaper than Synthroid).  However, you need to check the information for yourself and ask your doctor some serious questions. Use the letter at the above link as a help to get the discussion going.

kidney failure

First, thank you for what you do!!! I am dealing with kidnay failure with an unverified cause. Could be uncontrollable hypertension, or a bout with type 2 diabetes; now under control after removing all foods from the lamb and beef family, including dairy, which was minimal when I did consume it.

I am trying Arabic gum(senegal variety). Can you tell me if this removes the nitrogen from protein(plant & animal)sources, and how to use it for the best results? I have read a few Middle East journal articles where they have used this substance for delaying or stopping further degeneration.

Thank you.

Kidnay failure with an unverified cause

In India the healing system is called Ayurved. It aims at comprehensive healing of the body instead of mere removal of symptoms leading to degeneration of other organs in the body. The basic diagnostic procedure starts with casting a horoscope and ascertaing the type of body one has (Kaf, Pitt or Vaat or a mixture). In capable hands a horoscope becomes a map of one's health issues. The healing is done through herbs and naturally occuring minerals.

A kidney failure can often be cured by strengthening the planet whose weakness has caused it in the first place. The failure could also be caused by a planet which is harmful to the kidney and placed in a chart in a place where he can cause maximum damage. In such a case its pacification can be done by generating its energy signature through a Mantra.

The so called western medicine will derisively dismiss diagnosis based on a horoscope. That is the nature of the beast. It can only be satisfied by sending you to all sort of blood suckers for all sorts of reports; charging you a ton of money. Then, an upstart who has an MD behind his name can come and confidently tell you that you have an unverified cause. What rubbish. I have never ever heard of a healed kidney through western medicine. On the contrary the kidney failure can be caused by western medicines which are often extremely harmful chemicals.

Rajiv Sethi

2 herbs for renal failure

Urtica dioica (nettle) seed and lespedeza are my go-tos for renal failure, and there's also good data for Fish Oil being helpful.

I have read that fucoidan (a seaweed extract) has been found helpful in halting kidney degeneration.  I take it nearly every day for that purpose and can say that it relieves any pain in my kidney.  However, I have not been diagnosed with kidney failure, as I do not generally go to medical doctors anymore.  Shortly after taking drugs for IBS, several years ago, my left kidney felt like a knife had been plunged into it.  It never recovered from those drugs they gave me.  If I don't take fucoidan for a few days, it starts to hurt a little.  So, I take it nearly every day now.  I take the kind called "Modiflan".   There are some studies online, but I haven't seen any here on GMI yet.

Read you use of fucoidan for your kidneys

I would like to recommend you go to Sisel and checkout Fucoydon a highly concentrated form.  You can also read testimonials.  Tom Mower of Sisel, a biochemist, formulates all products, and makes sure they are toxic free, they are produced in the USA at his facility.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Best of Health,

Lung Regeneration

Greetings. When it comes to lung regeneration, this section on pulmonary fibrosis may help:

All the best!

Thank you

Lung tissue regeneration

I would be very interested to know of substances that are helpful with Lung tissue regeneration, or if you can direct me to links regarding this.. Keep up the good work

Inula Helenium (Elecampane)

Elecampane has a long history of traditional use as an lung tonic.

Why don't you look for someone can give you kinesiology (muscle test) They can tell you exactly what your system needs to regenerate the body

There are no independent clincials studies

There are NO independent clinical studies done to test the validity of muscle testing in any form. Here's is a proposal:

Take at least 100 people with known disease conditions and with clinical laboratory findings for vitamin or mineral deficiencies. Send them to at least 12 - 20 people (chiro's and anyone else using kiniseology) and have them tested by each one using muscle testing.  Have these 100 people diagnosed for nutrient deficiencies and recommendations all based on kinesiology. Have them also tested at different times of the day. Let's see what the results are. You should have consistancy in all if not most of the results. What you will have are readings all over the place, none of them consistant. Why?

1) There is no scientific or medical validity to muscle testing.

2) the body's chemistry changes every hour if not every minute and its nutritional requirements change with it. What one practitioner's recommendations are will be very different from another practitioners. There is no consistancy to it.

In my pratice of 26 years, I have been told outrageous things by patients who have been to  practitioners using kinesiology, some unethical and others bordering on criminal. One couple were told their daughter only had 1 kidney working. Of course it wasn't true. Laborartory tests confirmed both kidneys were working just fine.

Frankly, most practitioners of kinesiology use it as a way to sell nutritional supplements. Think I am wrong? Just count the number of bottles a patients purhcases and the number of pills a day they are told to take.

Muscle testing is subjective

While Kinesiology can have many wonderful applications, it also has drawbacks. The most noteable is that the person performing the test must have a clear intent, nothing else in their mind, no incling of a desire for the outcome to be one way or another, have nothing on their person or skin that may be noxious to the testee, and must be able to exactly replicate their method. Even then, the testee, the person being tested, can alter the test by their thoughts, what may be in their pockets, chemicals in their lotion or deodorant or hair products the testee may be "silently" sensative to, their posture, a weak muscle in a different part of the body, or they have a structural imbalance and need an adjustment.  But what is most powerful, and can help a person overcome any limitation to this or other methods, is a person's belief. If the tester and testee have unwavering belief that the muscle testing is the "right" thing, then the results obtained by the test will be of more significance and have more effectiveness when applied.

Regeneration of lung tissue

Excellent articles, many substances listed crossover.

For lungs specifically try nebulized nacent iodine or huffed food grade hydrogen peroxide to begin cleansing debris/pathogens. Max dose Vitamin C activates macrophages residing in lung tissue. Nebulized glutathione/bicarbonate is helpful (Theranaturals source)...all antioxidants, good fats...A D E K fat solubles work w eating fats.

Lung Regeneration and Hydrogen Peroxide

How do you use the H2O2 with regard to lung regeneration?

Lung Regeneration and Hydrogen Peroxide

How do you use the H2O2 with regard to lung regeneration?

Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide is diluted 11 times from 35% to 3%. Fill empty nasal spray container. Spray mist into mouth at back of throat while inhaleing sharply. Huff 3 times and repeat every few hours. Effective for any lung infection and roportedly COPD and lung cancer.

Thanks yes, I was recently told about this also...

Lung regeneration

I have been taking MSM and it is hands down the best supplement for lung regeneration. It is an amazing supplement and worth researching and taking. It is a key componenent in the manufacture of Glutathione in the body and actually allegedlly restores cell permeability. It has specific action on renewing lung tissue.

Thankyou, I'll try that
