The Story Behind GreenMedInfo

In 2007, Founder Sayer Ji had an idea to source and index all the scientific research available supporting natural healing in one website, and provide free access to it the world over.

At the time, Sayer’s go-to resource,, had over 17 million citations, about 5% of which were dedicated exclusively to complementary and alternative medicine. The process was a daunting one but he was committed.

As it goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, and literally, in his home garage, Sayer began to move towards this goal by creating the website:

It was a painstaking project involving finding and vetting suitable abstracts and transferring them through tens of thousands of copy/paste clicks via mouse. Sayer ended up with a static HTML  site with several thousand abstracts across 500 topics. This was a huge accomplishment but not dynamic enough to make the increasingly voluminous research any easier to understand, or share with the world.

That’s when the inspiration for hit. Sayer took his entire life’s savings at the time ($2,500) and took the risk of hiring a developer several thousand miles away in California to convert the old site into a dynamic database, which would eventually become the cloud-based application GreenMedInfo has been working on ever since.

Over the next seven years, the GreenMedInfo team worked countless hours to provide their platform, which receives a million visits a month, and sends 100 million emails a year of free content supporting evidence-based, natural medicine.
