Is Your Cookware Increasing Your Breast Cancer Risk?

Have you ever thought about your cookware increasing your risk for Breast Cancer?  Modern cookware is designed to support our fast pace lifestyle:  "no-mess and easy to clean". However, that "no-stick and easy-clean-up" comes with a high price.
Nonstick cookware is manufactured with a chemical called PFOA or C8.

The EPA is now investigating PFOA because

  1. It  is very persistent in the environment
  2. It is found in 98% of the blood of the general US population
  3. It causes developmental and other adverse reactions in laboratory animals

Studies conducted for the EPA in North Carolina in 2007 that PFOA affected the immune system, caused liver cancer, altered thyroid hormones and induced testicular and pancreatic cancer. PFOA is also known as an endocrine disruptor since it has a potential "estrogenic" effect.

Since the 1950's,  companies that created PFOA stated that the non-stick coating was inert and that it took extremely high heat to break down the chemical coating.  The sad truth is that the manufacturer workers were developing serious illnesses. Quick heating like stir frying can release up to 6 toxic cancer causing gases!

A side note: PFOA is also found in clothing, carpets, rain, popcorn packaging and tap water.

Another type of cookware you should avoid is ALUMINUM cookware. Aluminum is a very reactive metal that can leach into your food. Aluminum reacts most with acidic foods like tomato sauce and vinegars.  In fact, a person using aluminum cook ware on a daily basis is absorbing 3.5 mgs of aluminum through their food.

Direct and indirect intakes of aluminum have been associated with many neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Aluminum is also a member of the recently identified class of metalloestrogens, capable of stimulating proliferation -- and theoretically cancer -- in estrogen-sensitive tissues, e.g. breast, endometrial.

If you are on a healing journey and you are concerned about the effects that these toxins may have had on your health, then there is great news! There are several natural substances that have demonstrated a protective effect against aluminum toxicity.
Make a conscious effort to incorporate the following in your daily diet or ingest them as supplements:

  1. A high potency and bio-available Curcumin derived from Turmeric.
  2. Propolis, a bee hive product.
  3. NAC, a supplement that stimulates glutathione production. Glutathione is known as a primary anti-oxidant and is manufactured in human cells.
  4. Ginger.
  5. Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

If you want to enjoy worry free cooking and baking, use safe alternatives to non-stick and aluminum cookware like glass, ceramic and cast iron. Then, you can rest assured that your cookware is NOT contributing to your Breast Cancer risk.
