The CDC announced on June 8th that they are almost at the finish line of global polio eradication. They’ve not had a case of wild polio since January 13, 2011. Whoopee! But they still have plenty of paralysis. In fact they have more and more every year. AND …children with non-polio Acute Flaccid Paralysis(AFP), the new name for polio, are at more than twice the risk of dying than those with wild polio infection!

Some vaccines have been shown to be more harmful, even lethal, than the diseases they are used to "prevent." Recently, attenuated yellow fever vaccine was found to be 5 times more likely to harm, and 12 times more likely to kill, than the natural yellow fever infections that only rarely occur in the wild.
The biggest vitamin D story in 2011 was the report on dietary reference intakes for calcium and vitamin D from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) [1]. This report was prepared during a two-year process by 14 nutrition experts, with funding from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health and Health Canada. The committee reviewed the evidence for beneficial and harmful effects of vitamin D, relying solely on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of its liking for benefi

People often balk at the concept that a gluten-free diet may improve the condition of autistic children. For so many who have tried it, the proof is not in academic publications but in the (gluten free) pudding. Nothing is more compelling than seeing improvement with your own eyes, not even a randomized, double-blinded clinical trial.

A growing body of research suggests that x-ray mammography is planting the seeds of radiation-induced cancer within the breasts of thousands of women who subject themselves to them, annually, without knowledge of their true health risks.
45% of births in the US are now induced, but evidence supporting this intervention is severely lacking. Case controlled studies show no benefit to inducing for postdates. Routinely inducing for postdates is based on 3 uncontrolled, retrospective studies showing 1/1000 less stillbirths while ignoring possible increases in brain damage to newborns as a result of induction.

Few foods have such a depth of clinical human research supporting their use in the prevention and mitigation of disease as omega-3 fatty acids. In this review, 61 of the most compelling are highlighted by Pat Robinson, the founder of Heal Thyself!
We all know that leafy green vegetables are good for us, but do you know why they're so good? There are plenty of reasons but, when it comes to heart health, the secret is nitrates.

On a popular online deal today, I saw vitamin infused 'chocolate candy'. These delicious candied morsels are infused with probiotics, calcium, and vitamin D3, then covered in creamy milk chocolate.  Sounds good? Maybe a bit like yogurt with probiotics? Are these getting us psychologically ready for 'special' future medical food, without a 'need’ for vaccines?

Currently, suboptimal breastfeeding is associated with over a million deaths each year and 10% of the global disease burden in children. So why is the the CDC aggressively fixated on vaccination instead of breastfeeding?

Imagine if you lived inside your microwave and could see the ubiquitous frequencies bombarding you several times per minute 24/7. You might be horrified. Some people are now claiming that they are getting sick from it. A condition referred to as 'electromagnetic hypersensitivity,' is a new form of environmental allergy. This sort of multi-frequency barrage of radiation to living beings, is unprecedented ...and rapidly increasing. Welcome, ‘smart’ grid.

Hippocrates - the father of medicine - said, "Let your food be your medicine, and let your medicine be your food." Medicines are a subset of foods, according to Hippocrates. I like that. What are medicines today? What are foods?

Yogis, writers, tailors, hair cutters, software engineers, carpenters, baristas… For many of these people, wrist pain is the bane of their existence. Ask, and most will tell you they have carpal tunnel. However, in a high percentage of cases, this ubiquitous diagnosis for workplace-induced wrist pain is false.

Ok, so we have billions of pounds of synthetic chemicals consumed every year as patented drugs, with an army of degreed, licensed and doctored foot soldiers prescribing them recklessly under the once great banner of "medicine," in an ongoing war against the body's virtually infinite potential to generate symptoms, most of which are – ironically – a means to heal from acute or chronic exposure to synthetic chemicals.

Would you eat chicken that eats arsenic and banned antibiotics? You probably already have. When eating that delicious nugget, or scrumptious chicken salad…. do you ever wonder how the tender, juicy, and appealing shades of pink gets to your dinner plate? Welcome factory farming. The human consumption of poultry products is approximately 100 pounds more than any other animal. Each year, factory farms raise about 9 billion broiler chickens.

Breaking new research indicates that manufacturers throughout the world who were using the toxic hormone-disrupting chemical bisphenol A (BPA), may have simply switched to an equally toxic analogue in the same bisphenol chemical class known as bisphenol S (BPS), to evade regulatory oversight and trick consumers with their misleading "BPA-FREE!" labels....
Arugula has become something of a rock star in the world of salad and like all good rock stars, it has surrounded itself with controversy to create mystique and keep the publicity coming.

Last year, at the G8 Summit held at Camp David, President Obama met with private industry and African heads of state to launch the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition, a euphemism for monocultured, genetically modified crops and toxic agrochemicals aimed at making poor farmers debt slaves to corporations, while destroying the ecosphere for profit.

As we age, mitochondrial density (the number of mitochondria per cell), and mitochondrial quality (its genetic and structural integrity) decline. This is largely due to stress, environmental radiation and chemical exposures, prescribed drugs, nutritional deficiencies, imbalances and/or incompatibilities, and mitochondrial DNA defects inherited maternally, but is also a natural part of getting older.

If those who believe that fluoride doesn’t “make you stupid” (i.e. lower IQ) let themselves be exposed to it, or willfully consume it for its “health benefits,” doesn’t that prove the point? Could their fluoride-exposed brains and bodies lack the discernment needed to ascertain the dangers of such exposure?
Since the ability of ultrasound to both diagnose and improve outcomes of severe defects is close to non-existant in most locations, routine prenatal ultrasound screening is most often simply the best way to terrify a pregnant woman.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a commonly used "flavor enhancer," and so powerfully so that (arguably) you could spray it on roadkill and it would taste good. This omnipresent ingredient in modern mass market food takes advantage of our biologically hard-wired taste receptors, and makes it very hard to stop eating the foods "seasoned" with this ingredient.
Garlic kills yeast. Those who bake bread know not to add garlic while the dough is rising or it will kill the yeast. Instead, garlic is added to the dough after it has risen, just before baking it in the oven.

Want to improve your posture quickly, for free, with almost zero effort? I recently did it. So can you. I don’t deserve any credit for this accomplishment. I didn’t invent the technique, nor, as I mentioned, did implementing it ask much of me. I can, however, vouch for its effectiveness.
Two million American women will take an epidural trip this year during childbirth. In most cases, they'll be ill–informed as to possible side effects or alternate methods of pain relief. In many ways, epidurals are the drug trip of the current generation. Similar to street drug pushers, most anesthesiologists in the delivery rooms maintain a low profile, avoid making eye contact and threaten to walk out if they don't get total cooperation.

Aluminum toxicity, a characteristically manmade problem, is now impossible to avoid, and has become a postmodern human rite of passage. Not only are we being exposed, daily, through environmental pollution in our water, soil and air, but many of our regulatory agencies consider it perfectly safe to intentionally consume or inject the stuff directly into our bodies.

More on the Calcium Controversy: Research does not distinguish between the calcium leached from bones and teeth in response to inflammation and the calcium from supplement intake.

Is sustainable food an all or nothing construct like truth or pregnancy? If we do not, as consumers, buy 100% organic, 100% sustainably sourced food 100% of the time are we doomed to a fate of ill health and - worse - relegated to the periphery of our communities and blamed for the demise of the earth?

The human fascination with spices is as old as cultural time itself. There is an obvious beauty to the various aromas and flavors these plant extracts express (have you smelled cumin lately?), and undoubtedly these first drew us closer to them, but our primordial relationship with them involves much more than aesthetic infatuation.

New research published this week in the journal Heart has confirmed the findings of two controversial studies on calcium supplementation and heart attack risk published in the British Medical Journal last year, and which found a 24-27% increased risk of heart attack for those who took 500 mg of elemental calcium a day.
"Mars Attack" is new term coined to describe unjustified violation of women by care providers at the time of birth, as well as the purposeful abandonment of the peer review system by major obstetric journals and the abandonment of the use of research evidence by ACOG in their latest protocols, in order to justify continued use of this form of violence against women.

The US Food and Drug Admin. just approved a drug made from genetically modified carrots to treat Gaucher, a rare disease found mostly among Ashkenazi Jews. Out of a global population of 6.8 billion, an estimated range of 60-100,000 people carry the recessive gene for it, though not all are symptomatic.
Midlife women have been led to believe that hormone replacement therapy is an either or proposition: either you take it or you suffer the symptoms of menopause.

Few things strike fear into the hearts of men like the invisible terror of nuclear radiation. While the mention of a mushroom cloud sealed the sales pitch to invade Iraq a decade ago, today the subject of radiations whether from electromagnetic fields like cell phones, medical equipment, depleted uranium weaponry or Fukushima ( the elephant in the room ) has oddly been removed from mainstream conversation.

After a recent trip to the Naples Whole Foods juice bar – a place, mind you, I usually avoid at all costs because they don't explicitly label as organic the ingredients in their prepared foods – I allowed my good judgment to be euthanized by the sweet-sounding clerk’s assurance that they use "mostly organic" ingredients, with the highly non-binding qualification: "whenever possible."

Ever since the World Health Organization admitted in 2011 that cell phone radiation is “possibly carcinogenic,” and may be contributing to the global increase in brain cancer cases, it’s not so easy to be labeled a hypochondriac for being concerned about the health consequences of exposure.

In a disturbing study published last month (Dec. 2011) in the Journal of Toxicology in Vitro, researchers found that Monsanto's popular "weed killer" known as Roundup, which has already been linked to over 25 adverse health effects, is also capable of interfering with and/or harming the male reproductive system.
Investigators at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, studying the link between disease and nutrition, believe that eating just one cup of blueberries every day prevents cell damage linked to cancer.

It appears that Nature made it possible for the unborn offspring of mammals to save their mother's lives by contributing stem cells which are capable of grafting into tissues such as bone marrow, providing a lifelong source of new healthy cells to replace damaged or dysfunctional ones.
Evidence-based medicine requires evidence before medicating. Fluoridation of water is not evidence-based. It has not been tested in well-controlled studies. Fluoridation of public water is a default medication, since you have to deliberately avoid it if you do not want to take it.

Downward-facing dog is the most ubiquitous pose in yoga. This popular yoga pose is the one we see in advertisements and movies, on yoga DVDs, and the covers of health and fitness magazines. Downward-facing dog is taught in beginner yoga classes and returned to again and again by the most advanced yoga practitioners.

Retinoic acid causes inflammation. In an odd twist, nature reverses the important anti-inflammatory and growth factor related role of vitamin A: its metabolite retinoic acid partners with interleukin-15 (IL-15) to produce inflammation in some HLA-DQ2/DQ8 gene carriers.
Old adages usually survive because they're based on common experience. Everyone has heard the old saying, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." At least one clinical study has found that this may prove out scientifically, at least for menopausal women.
