PMID: 12351994 Abstract Title: The neurology of gluten sensitivity: separating the wheat from the chaff. Abstract: Coeliac disease is the prototypical gluten-sensitive disease. Clinico-pathological features heal on a gluten-free diet and relapse when gluten is reintroduced. An immunopathology is suspected. A number of neurological syndromes may be associated with coeliac disease but it is unclear whether these are directly or indirectly caused by gluten ingestion. It has been proposed that idiopathic ataxias and central nervous system white matter disease are gluten-sensitive syndromes. This is an exciting hypothesis because it offers new therapeutic possibilities including simple exclusion diets. However, interpretation is difficult because occult sub-clinical coeliac disease occurs commonly and background prevalence needs to be accounted for in population-based studies. This review will attempt to summarize the pertinent literature on this fascinating topic. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/it-has-been-proposed-idiopathic-ataxias-and-central-nervous-system-white-matte#comments Ataxia: Idiopathic Neurologic Disorders Gluten Neurotoxic Review Fri, 23 Mar 2012 04:26:23 +0000 greenmedinfo 73548 at https://greenmedinfo.com 25 Reasons to Avoid the Gardasil Vaccine https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/25-reasons-avoid-gardasil-vaccine

Robert F. Abstract: Cell phone radiation exposure and its biological interaction is the present concern of debate. Present study aimed to investigate the effect of 3G cell phone exposure with computer controlled 2-D stepper motor on 45-day-old male Wistar rat brain. Animals were exposed for 2 h a day for 60 days by using mobile phone with angular movement up to zero to 30°. The variation of the motor is restricted to 90° with respect to the horizontal plane, moving at a pre-determined rate of 2° per minute. Immediately after 60 days of exposure, animals were scarified and numbers of parameters (DNA double-strand break, micronuclei, caspase 3, apoptosis, DNA fragmentation, expression of stress-responsive genes) were performed. Result shows that microwave radiation emitted from 3G mobile phone significantly induced DNA strand breaks in brain. Meanwhile a significant increase in micronuclei, caspase 3 and apoptosis were also observed in exposed group (P
read more
https://greenmedinfo.com/article/3g-cell-phone-exposure-impacts-brain-function-inducing-oxidative-stress-dna-fr#comments Mitochondrial Dysfunction Neurologic Disorders Oxidative Stress Apoptotic Cell Phone Exposure Electromagnetic Field Harms Electromagnetic Radiation Genotoxic Microwave Radiation Mobile Phone Radiation Oxidant Brain Function Cell Phones electromagnetic fields electromagnetic frequencies electromagnetic radiation EMF Animal Study Fri, 02 Aug 2019 19:54:32 +0000 greenmedinfo 192623 at https://greenmedinfo.com 5 Reasons to Indulge in Strawberries https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/5-reasons-indulge-strawberries
This article is copyrighted by GreenMedInfo LLC, 2022
Visit our Re-post guidelines

In case you're looking for an excuse to satisfy your sweet tooth with strawberries, they're among the healthiest fruits for your heart, brain and body

Strawberries are among the most popular fruits in the U.S., with the average American consuming about eight pounds per year.[i] For many, enjoying fresh ripe strawberries signals the start of summer, but there's reason to indulge in these sweet, nutrient-rich berries year-round.

https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/5-reasons-indulge-strawberries#comments Anthocyanins Cancers Cognitive Decline/Dysfunction Flavonoids Folate Heart Disease Manganese Neurologic Disorders Obesity Strawberry Tannic Acid Vitamin C Health Guide: Farm/Pharma Face Off Health Guide: Food-Brain Connection Health Guides: Healing Foods Heart Health fruits and vegetables healing foods natural health Thu, 24 Nov 2022 00:37:33 +0000 GMI Research Group 266905 at https://greenmedinfo.com 7 Evidence-Based Activities for Parkinson's Disease https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/7-evidence-based-activities-parkinsons-disease
This article is copyrighted by GreenMedInfo LLC, 2022
Visit our Re-post guidelines

Simple and enjoyable physical activities, like bicycling, dancing and tai chi, can lead to significant improvements in physical and mental symptoms of Parkinson's disease while in some cases even slowing the progression of the disease

https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/7-evidence-based-activities-parkinsons-disease#comments Dancing Drumming Exercise Exercise: Cycling Neurologic Disorders Parkinson's Disease Athletic Performance Health Guide: Aging natural health neurodevelopment disorders parkinson's Thu, 15 Sep 2022 22:01:33 +0000 GMI Research Group 263458 at https://greenmedinfo.com 8 Top Gastrointestinal Agents for a Healthier Gut https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/8-top-gastrointestinal-agents-healthier-gut
This article is copyrighted by GreenMedInfo LLC, 2023
Visit our Re-post guidelines

Did you know that a healthy gut has been linked to a healthier life and you can choose natural foods or supplements to help you?

If you are experiencing gastrointestinal problems, you are not alone. Epub 2014 Apr 18. PMID: 24780533 Abstract Title: Potential matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors from edible marine algae: a review. Abstract: Matrix metalloproteinases are endopeptidases which belong to the group of metalloproteinases that contribute for the extra-cellular matrix degradation, and several tissue remodeling processes. An imbalance in the regulation of these endopeptidases eventually leads to several severe pathological complications like cancers, cardiac, cartilage, and neurological related diseases. Hence inhibitory substances of metalloproteinases (MMPIs) could prove beneficial in the management of above specified pathological conditions. The available synthetic MMPIs that have been reported until now have few shortcomings and thus many of them could not make to the final clinical trials. Hence a growing interest among researchers on screening of MMPIs from different natural resources is evident and especially natural products from marine origin. As there has been an unparalleled contribution of several biologically active compounds from marine resources that have shown profound applications in nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, and pharmaceuticals, we have attempted to discuss the various MMPIs from edible sea-weeds. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/review-concerning-potential-matrix-metalloproteinase-inhibitors-edible-marine-#comments Algae Cancers: All Cardiovascular Diseases Inflammation Neurologic Disorders Polyphenols Seaweed Matrix Metalloproteinase Inhibitors Review Mon, 25 May 2015 21:31:52 +0000 greenmedinfo 117712 at https://greenmedinfo.com A review of the current perspectives on the beneficial role of Ginkgo biloba in neurological and cerebrovascular disorders https://greenmedinfo.com/article/review-current-perspectives-beneficial-role-ginkgo-biloba-neurological-and-cer PMID: Integr Med Insights. 2015;10:1-9. Abstract: Ginkgo biloba extract is an alternative medicine available as a standardized formulation, EGb 761(®), which consists of ginkgolides, bilobalide, and flavonoids. The individual constituents have varying therapeutic mechanisms that contribute to the pharmacological activity of the extract as a whole. Recent studies show anxiolytic properties of ginkgolide A, migraine with aura treatment by ginkgolide B, a reduction in ischemia-induced glutamate excitotoxicity by bilobalide, and an alternative antihypertensive property of quercetin, among others. These findings have been observed in EGb 761 as well and have led to clinical investigation into its use as a therapeutic for conditions such as cognition, dementia, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular diseases. This review explores the therapeutic mechanisms of the individual EGb 761 constituents to explain the pharmacology as a whole and its clinical application to cardiovascular and neurological disorders, in particular ischemic stroke. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/review-current-perspectives-beneficial-role-ginkgo-biloba-neurological-and-cer#comments Alzheimer's Disease Ginkgo biloba Neurologic Disorders Stroke: Ischemic Neuroprotective Agents Plant Extracts Review Sat, 28 Nov 2015 00:10:44 +0000 greenmedinfo 121853 at https://greenmedinfo.com Allicin protects against H2O2-induced apoptosis of PC12 cells. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/allicin-protects-against-h2o2-induced-apoptosis-pc12-cells PMID: Exp Ther Med. 2017 Sep ;14(3):2053-2059. Epub 2017 Jul 9. PMID: 28962124 Abstract Title: Allicin protects against H2O2-induced apoptosis of PC12 cells via the mitochondrial pathway. Abstract: Allicin is a major bioactive ingredient of garlic and has a broad range of biological activities. Allicin has been reported to protect against cell apoptosis induced by H2O2 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. The present study evaluated the neuroprotective effect of allicin on the H2O2-induced apoptosis of rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells in vitro and explored the underlying mechanism involved. PC12 cells were incubated with increasing concentrations of allicin and the toxic effect of allicin was measured by MTT assay. The cells were pretreated for 24 h with low dose (L-), medium dose (M-) and high dose (H-) of allicin, followed by exposure to 200µM H2O2 for 2 h, and the cell viability was examined by MTT assay. In addition, cell apoptosis rate was analyzed by Annexin V-FITC/PI assay, while intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial transmembrane potential (∆ψm) were measured by flow cytometry. Bcl-2, Bax, cleaved-caspase-3 and cytochrome c (Cyt C) in the mitochondria were also examined by western blotting. The results demonstrated that 0.01 µg/ml (L-allicin), 0.1 µg/ml (M-allicin) and 1 µg/ml (H-allicin) were non-toxic doses of allicin. Furthermore, H2O2 reduced cell viability, promoted cell apoptosis, induced ROS production and decreased ∆ψm. However, allicin treatment reversed the effect of H2O2 in a dose-dependent manner. It was also observed that H2O2 exposure significantly decreased Bcl-2 and mitochondrial Cyt C, while it increased Bax and cleaved-caspase-3, which were attenuated by allicin pretreatment. The results revealed that allicin protected PC12 cells from H2O2-induced cell apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway, suggesting the potential neuroprotective effect of allicin against neurological diseases.
https://greenmedinfo.com/article/allicin-protects-against-h2o2-induced-apoptosis-pc12-cells#comments Allicin Hydrogen Peroxide Induced Toxicity Neurologic Disorders Anti-Apoptotic Neuroprotective Agents In Vitro Study Fri, 27 Oct 2017 01:24:50 +0000 greenmedinfo 154942 at https://greenmedinfo.com Alpha-Lipoic Acid Improves Multiple Sclerosis https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/alpha-lipoic-acid-improves-multiple-sclerosis

Originally published on www.doctormurray.com

Many times there are extremely positive preliminary results with a natural product improving very serious health condition and there are no follow up studies. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To characterize adverse events (AEs) after Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccines reported to the US Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a spontaneous reporting surveillance system.STUDY DESIGN: We searched VAERS for US reports after Hib vaccines among reports received from January 1, 1990, to December 1, 2013. We reviewed a random sample of reports and accompanying medical records for reports classified as serious. All reports of death were reviewed. Physicians assigned a primary clinical category to each reviewed report. We used empirical Bayesian data mining to identify AEs that were disproportionally reported after Hib vaccines.RESULTS: VAERS received 29,747 reports after Hib vaccines; 5179 (17%) were serious, including 896 reports of deaths. Median age was 6 months (range 0-1022 months). Sudden infant death syndrome was the stated cause of death in 384 (51%) of 749 death reports with autopsy/death certificate records. The most common nondeath serious AE categories were neurologic (80; 37%), other noninfectious (46; 22%) (comprising mainly constitutional signs and symptoms); and gastrointestinal (39; 18%) conditions. No new safety concerns were identified after clinical review of reports of AEs that exceeded the data mining statistical threshold.CONCLUSION: Review of VAERS reports did not identify any new or unexpected safety concerns for Hib vaccines.
https://greenmedinfo.com/article/although-only-1-vaccine-adverse-events-are-reported-vaers-system-received-2974#comments Neurologic Disorders Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Vaccine-induced Toxicity Neurotoxic Vaccination: All Vaccination: Haemophilus Influenzae Human: Case Report Fri, 22 Nov 2019 12:50:46 +0000 greenmedinfo 202475 at https://greenmedinfo.com An Open Call-to-Action Letter to the California Medical Board https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/open-call-action-letter-california-medical-board
This article is copyrighted by GreenMedInfo LLC, 2019
Visit our Re-post guidelines

Originally published on Children's Health Defense.

Dear Members of the California Medical Board,

https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/open-call-action-letter-california-medical-board#comments Autoimmune Diseases Measles Neurologic Disorders Vaccine-induced Toxicity Chemical and Drug Toxicity Health Guide: Chemical Exposures Health Guide: Corruption in Science Vaccine Adjuvants Vaccine Effects Vaccine Rights anti-vaccine corruption in science legal Mon, 03 Jun 2019 17:50:14 +0000 Alix-Mayer 188616 at https://greenmedinfo.com An overview of the Ketogenic diet and childhood neurological disorders other than epilepsy. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/overview-ketogenic-diet-and-childhood-neurological-disorders-other-epilepsy PMID: Expert Rev Neurother. 2016 Nov 21:1-13. Epub 2016 Nov 21. PMID: 27841033 Abstract Title: Ketogenic diet and childhood neurological disorders other than epilepsy: an overview. Abstract: In the last years, ketogenic diet (KD) has been experimentally utilized in various childhood neurologic disorders such as mitochondriopathies, alternating hemiplegia of childhood (AHC), brain tumors, migraine, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The aim of this review is to analyze how KD can target these different medical conditions, highlighting possible mechanisms involved. Areas covered: We have conducted an analysis on literature concerning KD use in mitochondriopathies, AHC, brain tumors, migraine, and ASD. Expert commentary: The role of KD in reducing seizure activity in some mitochondriopathies and its efficacy in pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency is known. Recently, few cases suggest the potentiality of KD in decreasing paroxysmal activity in children affected by AHC. A few data support its potential use as co-adjuvant and alternative therapeutic option for brain cancer, while any beneficial effect of KD on migraine remains unclear. KD could improve cognitive and social skills in a subset of children with ASD.
https://greenmedinfo.com/article/overview-ketogenic-diet-and-childhood-neurological-disorders-other-epilepsy#comments Autism Spectrum Disorders Headache: Migraine Hemiplegia Neurologic Disorders Dietary Modification: Low Carbohydrate/Ketogenic Review Thu, 08 Dec 2016 22:57:16 +0000 greenmedinfo 140151 at https://greenmedinfo.com Anatomy of a Science Study Censorship https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/anatomy-science-study-censorship

Originally published on www.ghostshipmedia.com

Elsevier's "withdrawal" of a small veterinary study breaks all the rules of scientific publishing.
