PMID: 19533807 Abstract Title: Protective effect of Radix Astragali injection on immune organs of rats with obstructive jaundice and its mechanism. Abstract: AIM: To observe the protective effect of Radix Astragali injection on immune organs (lymph nodes, spleen and thymus) of rats with obstructive jaundice (OJ) and its mechanism. METHODS: SD rats were randomly divided into sham-operation group, model control group and Radix Astragali treatment group. On days 7, 14, 21 and 28 after operation, mortality rate of rats, pathological changes in immune organs, expression levels of Bax and nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB p65 proteins, apoptosis indexes and serum tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha level in spleen and thymus were observed, respectively. RESULTS: Compared to model control group, the number of dead OJ rats in Radix Astragali treatment group decreased (P > 0.05). The TNF-alpha level (27.62 +/- 12.61 vs 29.55 +/- 18.02, 24.61 +/- 9.09 vs 31.52 +/- 10.95) on days 7 and 21, the pathological severity score for spleen [0.0 (0.0) vs 0.0 (2.0) on days 7 and 14 and for lymph nodes [0.0 (1.0) vs 1.0 (2.0), 1.0 (0.0) vs 2.0 (1.0)] on days 21 and 28, the product staining intensity and positive rate of Bax protein in spleen [0.0 (0.0) vs 1.0 (2.0), 0.0 (1.0) vs 2.0 (1.5) and thymus [0.0 (0.0) vs 1.0 (2.0), 0.0 (1.0) vs 2.0 (1.5)] on days 14 and 28, the apoptotic indexes [0.0 (0.0) vs 0.0 (0.01)] in spleen and thymus [0.0 (0.0) vs 0.0 (0.01) on days 14 and 21 were significantly lower in Radix Astragali treatment group than in model control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Radix Astragali has protective effects on immune organs of OJ rats by relieving the pathological changes in immune organs, reducing TNF-alpha level and inhibiting Bax expression and apoptosis in spleen and thymus. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/astragalus-injection-has-protective-effect-immune-organs-rats-obstructive-jaun#comments Astragalus Jaundice: Post-Hepatic/Obstructive Animal Study Tue, 15 Sep 2009 14:22:30 +0000 greenmedinfo 47118 at https://greenmedinfo.com Ellagic acid has a protective effect against oxidative damage in lung tissue in obstructive jaundice. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/ellagic-acid-has-protective-effect-against-oxidative-damage-lung-tissue-obstru PMID: Acta Chir Belg. 2013 Jul-Aug;113(4):285-9. Abstract: AIM: This study aimed to investigate protective effects of ellagic acid on lungs in an experimental obstructive jaundice model.METHODS: Four groups were established, each consisting of ten randomly selected rats: Group 1: sham, Group 2: ellagic acid, Group 3: obstructive jaundice, and Group 4: obstructive jaundice + ellagic acid. Ellagic acid was administered orally at a dose of 60 mg/kg/day to group 2 and 4. The animals were sacrificed eight days later. The total oxidative status and the total antioxidant capacity in their lung tissue were determined, and malondialdehyde levels in their blood were measured. Histopathological changes in the lungs were examined.RESULTS: In the obstructive jaundice group treated with ellagic acid, there was a decrease in malondialdehyde levels and a reduction in the total oxidative status and the oxidative stress index, whereas the total antioxidant capacity increased (p
read more
https://greenmedinfo.com/article/ellagic-acid-has-protective-effect-against-oxidative-damage-lung-tissue-obstru#comments Ellagic Acid Jaundice: Post-Hepatic/Obstructive Oxidative Stress Antioxidants Animal Study Wed, 27 Jun 2018 13:25:17 +0000 greenmedinfo 166438 at https://greenmedinfo.com The consumption of pomegranate extract ameliorated the effect of oxidative stress in tissues damaged by obstructive jaundice in a rat model. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/consumption-pomegranate-extract-ameliorated-effect-oxidative-stress-tissues-da PMID: Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci. 2016 Feb ;20(4):767-72. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the protective potential of pomegranate extract on the liver and remote organs in rats with obstructive jaundice.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The rats were split into 4 groups. In Group 1 (G1) (sham group) rats, the common bile duct was mobilized without any ligation. Group 2 (G2) received a combination of the sham operation and synchronous treatment with pomegranate. Group 3 (G3) received common bile duct ligation (CBDL). Group 4 (G4) were subjected to CBDL and treatment with pomegranate. After 8 days, we measured total oxidative status (TOS) and antioxidant capacity in the rats' liver tissue and remote organs, and evaluated blood levels of malondialdehyde and total antioxidant capacity (TAC).RESULTS: G3 rats showed significantly raised malondialdehyde level as compared to G1 rats (p https://greenmedinfo.com/article/consumption-pomegranate-extract-ameliorated-effect-oxidative-stress-tissues-da#comments Jaundice Jaundice: Post-Hepatic/Obstructive Oxidative Stress Pomegranate Antioxidants Cytoprotective Hepatoprotective Animal Study Thu, 17 Mar 2016 04:51:25 +0000 greenmedinfo 124886 at https://greenmedinfo.com
