Dunal) is the member of family Solanaceae, locally known as Ashwagandha or Asgandh in India. This plant is erect, much-branched undershrubs, few-flowered with orange-red berries. The plant commonly grows in moist, shady places along the roads, often abundant near habitations. Ashwagandha is cultivated commercially for its fruits and roots in many parts of India. The therapeutic values of the roots of this plant have been mentioned in age-old texts and also in Ayurveda. Tribesmen in Patalkot (Madhya Pradesh) and Dangs (Gujarat) largely practice Ashwagandha and its different parts in preparation of traditional herbal formulations (Acharya and Shrivastava, 2008, 2011).

In India, the bruised leaves and ground roots of Ashwagandha are applied on painful swellings, carbuncles and ulcers for its sedative action (Arseculeratne et al., 1985). The roots and leaves are also used to cure fever, chills, rheumatism, colic etc. The juice of the plant is a diuretic and emmenagogue (Saha et al., 1961). The roots have an antifertility activity in females. It has shown antibacterial, antifungal and antitumour activity. The fruits are emetic, sedative, and diuretic, useful in liver complaints. The dried fruits are used in intestinal disorders particularly of the liver. Fruits are also used in asthma and in preventing atherosclerosis.

https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/herbs-indias-tribal-pouch-ashwagandha#comments Ashwagandha Asparagus Ghee Holy Basil Long Pepper Nocturnal Emission Phyllanthus emblica Sperm Count: Low Tribulus Galactogogue Health Guide: Herbs and Traditional Knowledge Asgandh Ashwagandha Dangs Deepak Acharya India Patalkot Solanaceae traditional herbal formulation tribals Winter Cherry Withania somnifera Wed, 07 Nov 2012 13:00:00 +0000 deepakacharya 84086 at https://greenmedinfo.com Withaferin A directly inhibits the proliferation and metastatic activity of gastric cancer cells. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/withaferin-directly-inhibits-proliferation-and-metastatic-activity-gastric-can n/a PMID: Oncol Lett. 2017 Jul ;14(1):416-422. Epub 2017 May 12. PMID: 28693185 Abstract Title: Withaferin A inhibits the proliferation of gastric cancer cells by inducing G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Abstract: Human gastric adenocarcinoma (AGS) is one of the most common types of malignant tumor and the third-leading cause of tumor-associated mortality worldwide. Withaferin A (WA), a steroidal lactone derived from Withania somnifera, exhibits antitumor activity in a variety of cancer models. However, to the best of our knowledge, the direct effect of WA on AGS cells has not previously been determined. The present study investigated the effects of WA on the proliferation and metastatic activity of AGS cells. WA exerted a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect on AGS cells. The effect was associated with cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and the expression of apoptotic proteins. Additionally, WA treatment resulted in a decrease in the migration and invasion ability of the AGS cells, as demonstrated using a wound healing assay and a Boyden chamber assay. These results indicate that WA directly inhibits the proliferation and metastatic activity of gastric cancer cells, and suggest that WA may be developed as a drug for the treatment of gastric cancer. https://greenmedinfo.com/article/withaferin-directly-inhibits-proliferation-and-metastatic-activity-gastric-can#comments Ashwagandha Gastric Cancer Anti-metastatic Antiproliferative Apoptotic Cell cycle arrest Anti-metastatic Antiproliferative Apoptotic Ashwagandha Cell cycle arrest gastric cancer In Vitro Study Fri, 14 Jul 2017 18:27:13 +0000 greenmedinfo 150432 at https://greenmedinfo.com
